Skin care seems to have a lot of unanswered questions these days. So lets tackle this with some of the Top 10 questions that many want the answers to.

HOW TO KNOW YOUR SKIN TYPE?
The most common are, dry, combination and oily. Its commonly known for dry skin to feel tight particularly around the eyes and mouth with some possible flaking on the cheeks
Combination skin can be shiny in the T-Zone (forehead, nose, chin) with dry patches in the cheek area.
Whereas oily skin is generally soft and shiny with too much oil to the touch with an overall greasy appearance.

DO YOU REALLY NEED TO WASH YOUR FACE IN THE MORNING?
This is a highly personalized question, but the answer is YES. Morning and evening. Because your skin builds up bacteria overnight (changing pillowcase is beneficial). Cleansing your skin in the morning also creates a great canvas for applying your skin care products. More importantly always cleanse before bed. Dirt, make-up and environmental toxins accumulate throughout the day leaving skin that’s in need of a thorough wash to prevents clogged pores and breakouts.

IS VITAMIN C REALLY IMPORTANT IN MY SKIN CARE?
Vitamin C is a powerhouse nutrient to be used internally and topically to help reduce appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It has excellent antioxidant properties to protect the skin from free radical damage. So, it supportive to prevent premature aging. Also… it enhances collagen production in helping to tighten and produce younger more supple looking skin.

RETINOL…HOW TO?
More often retinol is usually recommended at night depending on the product, strength and sensitivities. It can be a powerful product to remove dead skin and help with cellular turnover. However, it can make you sun sensitive so SPF is a must. You should begin slowly, working gradually from one night a week up to 3-4 times. This allows skin to become acclimated to minimize irritation. A good quality moisturizer is recommended to help soothe and keep the skin from becoming overly dry and irritated.

DOES THE WAY YOU SLEEP EFFECT YOUR FACE?
Over time certain sleep patterns can cause more wrinkles. Your face is compressed in your pillow every night for multiple hours. So, it's recommended to change pillows every 1-2 years as a guideline and try your best to sleep on your back (silk pillowcases are plus) face glides as opposed to being smooched for long periods of time.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I EXFOLIATE?
Depends on your skin, sensitivities and the desired result needed. Did you know using a soft washcloth with your cleanser is considered a form of exfoliation? Typically, it should be 1-3 times a week. If your dry and sensitive maybe one time, if your overly oily and have more youthful skin it could be up to 3 times. Over exfoliating can do more damage than good though so go easy on this step.

IS IT NECESSARY TO HAVE DIFFERENT PRODUCTS FOR MORNING AND EVENING?
Definitely a good cleanse followed by your serum and moisturizer. At night is when your body is repairing so it's important to incorporate specific care in this process. Remember doing a masque once a week is ideal also.

DO YOU NEED A TONER AND WHAT ARE THEY?
Certainly, a question on the minds of many if they are necessary. Toners typically are used to remove excess oil, make-up and dirt. However, they really aren’t necessary if you're using the correct cleanser and properly washing your skin. Sometimes this requires a double cleanse. First to breakdown impurities and second to clean the skin and prep for next step with your products. There can be some exceptions with very oily skin and acne.

HOW CAN YOU PREVENT SKIN FROM AGING?
Unfortunately, this is part of nature and out of our control but there are things to use as preventative along with a good skin regime and facial treatments. Wear your sunscreen to prevent further damage. Use products with Hylauronic Acid, Vitamin C, Niacinamide, Retinol just to name a few. In salon treatments are highly recommended also to to address specific concerns.

WHEN SHOULD I START USING ANTI-AGING PRODUCTS?
You start to lose collagen production beginning in your 20s so it's necessary to begin early even with a basic cleanser, moisturizer and SPF.
